  • Teaching English in HK?

Matt mentioned something about teaching in HK…and I looked into it…
Sounds kinda interesting to me actually… salaries range from $2300USD/month to $4000USD/month plus room and board, and a stipend.
Doesn’t require a teaching degree, but does require a bachelores degree… 🙂 Horray for school. $57.6K/cdn a year plus room and board, and a stipend… not bad at all (well that’s the high end ones).
I have no interest in teaching in Japan… but I do have a interest to possibly live in HK… and this maybe an way to do it.
I may give it more thought later…

  • Ying's moving to TW…

    Ying’s leaving today for good.
It’s kinda sucks, where I never got to spend much time with her…
Oh well, there’s always skype and msn.

    Putfile bans Singapore after hanging
    putfile release
Well, this is an interesting little boycott. I see people arguing back and forth on the discussion forums on both digg.com and putfile.com
If you break a law on a foreign countries soil, you are accountable to that country.
Be as it may, the punishment is there to deter perpetrators. Those that break laws are subject to those punishments.
Worse off would be the barbaric mutilation of a person. I.e. “if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. Some cultures have taken that to the literal meaning, which scares me even more. How will a member in society be able to function in a 3rd world, if they are viewed as disabled or evil. They are pariahs, and ostracized from society.
Even with the many US States that have the death penalty, the deterrent isn’t there. What differences are there between the two countries, that would caused a lower homicide rate in Canada than in the USA? I’m talking homicides per capita.
Oh well… thoughts and comments welcomed.

  • Exploits of an English Teach in Japan

I’ve been reading this Japanese English Teachers (JET) experiences. I suggest that you don’t read it, or you’ll just fall over laughing, or as someone I know neglected some important responsibilities, and will be going to hell for said neglect.
There will always be good kids, and bad kids everywhere. But it’s just good to see that it’s not all localized around me.

I highly suggest you check it out for an awesome laugh.

  • Dinner Party conversations

It’s funny, I never thought my the program I’m taking at Seneca would be interesting to other people. Someone gave me another perspective that I could take on forensic accounting.
The perspectic is how to legally adjust the books, to maximize benefit to the company. To work within ethical and legal criterias. Some companies would pay big bucks in doing so. But it also walks a fine line between the what’s legal and illegal.

  • flash dynamic preloader

Flash has a nice tendency to not load stuff properly. This is because I’m so used to linear processing, as opposed to parallel taskes to be done at the same time.
With this in mind, flash causes start/finish issues. Flash will try to use an object that hasn’t been completely loaded yet. So checks all these checks have to be put in place.
The alternative to checks, is to preload that objects. Which, if you know nothing about actionscript is a little daughting.
I’m in the middle of writing a modular preloader for dynamic content in actionscript 2. At least the dynamic content’s size can be calculated.
This really shouldn’t be that hard, except the fact that I don’t know the scruture of actionscript. Perhaps this will be the new thing I’m going to learn…

  • Firefox extensions that are a must

    MUST have extensions:
noscript denies Java, and JavaScripts from running, unless whitelisted.
adblock – Just as it sounds, blocks ads.
a large list for adblocking – a community list for adblock
Disable Targets For Downloads – Prevents sites spawning blank windows when clicking binary downloads.
    Tabbrowser Preferences
gmail notifier – little notice icon when new mail arrives to your gmail account.

  • blogging for others.

Earlier this week, I remembered a conversation I had with Ying. She said my blog was boring. 🙂
I do not deny that my blog is boring. However, I do not blog for others, I keep track of random thoughts and keep records for myself.
With that said, I have no doubt that others read this blog. I’ve had people come here for some reason or another, referred by google or elsewhere. And even paste a comment or two.
What reminded me about the conversation with Ying was while I was in class; I realized that I could google a given person and have relevant information come up. There could be another Lloyd Leung, but if you do a whois on the domain name, they’ll know if I am that person or not.
Vanity has it’s downside, which is anonymity.
I intend to keep what’s private, private.
